Ottmanngut Suites & Breakfast is more a dainty blueprint of a bijou residence than a hotel. It is truly a wonderful, stylish luxury house of antiques and quaintness set in a beautiful garden of sweet-scented fauna at the foot of the Alps, in the Italian spa town of Merano, South Tyrol. The lovingly curatorial hand of the owning family have narrated the boutique interiors to weave rich heritage with original features brushed by a poetic softness. Eloquent touches, period antiques and an eclectic array of furniture pay homage to the past, with just a requisite nod of modernity. Ottmanngut has always been a place of creative solace, with enchanting stories of artists, writers and thinkers who have found tranquillity here, often inspired sitting under the Cypress and lemon trees in the Mediterranean gardens.

Every suite is different with each element chosen specifically, at Ottmanngut, an orchestrated melange of striking boutique luxury and timeless style graces throughout. The rooms are neat as a pin, and the use of walnut wood, luxe fabrics, carved headboards and antique furniture give it a lived-in and comfortable feel.

All rooms come with sweeping views: either the lime trees, sun set, mountains or the leafy green of the Mediterranean garden. The Vefi corner room describes itself as the ‘flora salon’ which comes in a Biedermeier style with elements designed by Harry Thaler and comfortable armchairs in floral prints.

Breakfast is a feast of South Tyrol with daily changeable dishes served to your table in the orangery or gardens. The owners have sourced the very finest that this corner of Italy has to offer, all infused by the Mediterranean climate and some of the best marmalades we've ever tasted. Fresh cakes, breads and the cheeses of Alto Adige, including coffee that boasts to be from the world's highest coffee grinders lace the tables. Fine, tasty and elegant - just as you would expect from a creative Bed & Breakfast like this, with some South Tyrolean foodie luxury to wake you up in the morning.

Merano is brimming with eateries, gourmet to the homely simple - just pop out through the garden and you have restaurants right on your doorstep.

Ottmanngut is situated a few minutes walk from the heart of the spa town of Meran (Merano) in the Adige Valley of South Tyrol, northwest of Bolzano in Italy.  

Sitting among the vineyards looking up towards the Tessa mountains, next to the meandering Tappeinerweg trail and the St. Nicholas Church, Ottmanngut is close enough to explore the town's Habsburg heritage, the Botanical Gardens of the Trauttmansdorff Castle, the thermal baths, and is a perfect base to explore the Val Passiria, between Avelengo and Tesimo.  To the northwest of Merano are the Val Senales and the mountains that look down over the Ötz valley.

Family Kirchlechner has been rooted in this South Tyrolean house since 1850 and today, Martin runs this restored family hotel that is as much their home.  Chief of aesthetics was their father, a passionate lover of antiques and someone who also nurtures the lush Mediterranean gardens. Culturalists are heart; Martin embraces local artists, writers and performers and as such Ottmanngut is known as a bit of a secret insider venue – a spirit that makes this house come alive.

The Kirchlechner’s natural, hands-on approach makes them unique hosts, as original as the interiors.
