The Threads of Life

Alberto and Alida Gandolfi, founders of Filodivino, walking through their estate vineyards with their dog, Le Marche Italy

Intro

In 2013, Alberto Gandolfi and his wife Alida took a radical leap, leaving behind their family’s textile empire in northern Italy. Their destination? A forgotten casolare - a timeworn farmhouse surrounded by 17 hectares of vineyards, steeped in Le Marche’s winemaking heritage. Where others saw decay, they saw destiny. Their vision was not just about restoration, but reinvention - a transformation of land, legacy and experience. And so, Filodivino was born: a place where rugged tradition collides with contemporary design, where the past is honoured and the future is forged.

At its heart, Filodivino is beautifully simple, a place that moves at its own rhythm, intertwining un filo — a thread — between Le Marche’s raw landscapes, winemaking, style and architecture.

Flawless Tradition, Boldly Reimagined

Filodivino is a manifesto in brick, stone, smoked timber and steel - a fusion of centuries-old craftsmanship and a radical reimagining of a forgotten vineyard farmhouse. A familiar restoration story transformed into a striking tribute to Le Marche’s architectural past, its rugged stone walls clashing beautifully with bold contemporary lines. Tradition is honoured, but never confined.

Inside, Alberto and Alida followed their instincts for interior design, obliterating rustic clichés in favour of a pure, tamed aesthetic that frames lighting by Foscarini, Karmannand Catellani & Smith. The interiors pay homage to Le Marche’s humble heritage, where smooth taupe-plastered walls radiate warmth, modernist crafted sofas by family brand Lago and rich terracotta floors echo the farmhouse’s rural past. The deliberate pared-back aesthetic allows natural light to flood the seven suites, where handcrafted teak furnishings, pure linen bedding, bathroom elements by Villeroy & Boch and muted draperies mirror the earthy hues of the vineyards. The walls are populated with commissioned abstract artworks by local Italian artist Marta Mancini, who captures the magic of Le Marche’s wild landscapes. Thoughtfully designed patios stretch into the countryside, forging an unfiltered connection to the wild - a paradise for those who revere terroir. The Luxury Room, a tribute to natural textures and sleek minimalism, wraps guests in a jolt of wild elegance, complete with a private open-air shower.

Subterranean Design

Winner of the InArchitettura Award 2023, Filodivino’s striking underground winery is the work of visionary architect Cristiana Dell’Acqua. Burrowed into the hillside, its soft, billowing form contrasts against the original farmhouse, creating a lyrical backbone to winemaking. Sustainability is not an afterthought - it is woven into the foundations. Every material, every decision, every angle minimises impact, allowing the land to breathe. Below ground, the subterranean winery harnesses the earth’s natural insulation, optimising energy use while creating perfect conditions for viniculture.

Vineyard Wellness

Filodivino approach to wellness is deeply rooted in its surroundings. The infinity-edge pool, spanning six by eight metres (3200 sq ft), merges seamlessly with the landscape, its Trani limestone deck sloping gently into the water. Sun loungers and parasols by Italianbrand Gandia Blasco invite slow, sun-drenched leisure, while the gentle hum of nature lulls guests into relaxation.

Just steps away, the spa expands this restorative escape with 300 square metres of indulgence. A lounge area and gym cater to both movement and mindfulness, while a carefully curated selection of wellness experiences invites deep relaxation. Guests can immerse themselves in the heat of the sauna and steam bath before plunging into the cold therapy pools. A Kneipp therapy walk, multi-sensory showers and heated indoor and outdoor hydromassage baths complete the experience, restoring balance and vitality. Every element has been designed to slow the pulse and encourage a deeper connection to the land.

Sip the Story—Verdicchio & Lacrima di Morro d'Alba

Filodivino Diuo Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva Classico Superiore bottles and wine glass styled on an oak barrel in the estate cellar, Le Marche Italy

Wine runs deep in Le Marche, and Filodivino honours this legacy through two iconic varietals. Verdicchio, a versatile and long-lived grape, thrives in these rolling hills, producing wines that range from crisp and vibrant to structured and age-worthy. Filodivino crafts five expressions of Verdicchio, from the classic DOC classifications —Classico, Superiore, and Riserva — to an amphora-aged version and an unconventional, boundary-pushing take that redefines expectations.

Equally captivating is Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, a rare and intensely aromatic red once on the brink of extinction. Nearly lost in the 1980s, this distinctive varietal has found new life in Filodivino care. The estate produces two traditional DOC versions — Lacrima and Superiore — as well as a delicate rosato that amplifies its floral and spicy notes. Every glass tells a story of heritage, craftsmanship and Le Marche’s singular terroir.

Sustainability Soul

At Filodivino, sustainability is not a trend — it is an ethos embedded in every aspect of its existence. From construction to cuisine, every detail aligns with the Itaca protocol, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint. Recycled materials, locally sourced craftsmanship, renewable energy and organic farming form the foundation of its philosophy. Here, sustainability is not about sacrifice but about deep respect —  for the land, for tradition and the experience it offers. Choosing Filodivino means choosing responsibility without compromising on beauty, indulgence or pleasure.

Raw, Gorgeous and Wild

Standing proudly atop the rolling heights of Le Marche, San Marcello, Ancona is a hidden treasure, where time slows and history lingers. Cradled between the Adriatic and the Sibillini Mountains, its medieval charm unfolds in golden vineyards and ancient olive groves. The air is thick with the scent of Verdicchio, its legacy etched into the land. As the sun dips, trattorias hum with time-honoured flavours, and the piazza comes alive — the rhythm of voices mingling with the evening cicadas.

Filodivino is not simply a boutique hideaway—it is a sanctuary where design, nature, and indulgence exist in perfect harmony. It is a fabulous refugio for those who revere wine, architecture and the art of slow living. Here, wine flows as freely as ideas, and the pulse of innovation beats in time with tradition. As modern haste fades, La Dolce Vita thrives — not in spectacle, but in the quiet, intoxicating beauty of life’s simplest pleasures.
