Luxury Self Catering Design Lodge in Scotland – A Chic Escape with Epic Views Perthsihre in the Dun Aluinn Estate

Cedar Recluse

Commanding its perch on the raw, untamed landscape of Highland Perthshire, The Lodge at Dun Aluinn is a bold architectural statement—an unapologetic fusion of cutting-edge design and rugged wilderness. Wrapped in sleek cedar and shrouded in mystique, this self-catering hideaway isn’t just a retreat; it’s a mood, a movement, an experience. Whether booked solo or alongside the stately Dun Aluinn, The Lodge is where seclusion meets high design, and every moment is drenched in effortless cool.

Inside, it’s a masterclass in razor-sharp minimalism and fearless aesthetics. Muted earthy tones whisper restraint, while electric-hued Dutch sinks, slouchy leather sling chairs, and draped sheepskin throw up the ante. The open-plan kitchen and dining space isn’t just for meals—it’s a stage for indulgence, designed for up to eight guests to revel in long, lazy feasts. A hulking built-in fireplace dominates the lounge, its flickering flames casting cinematic shadows across floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the wild majesty of the Tay Valley.

Four en-suite bedrooms sleep eight, each an understated sanctuary of stripped-back luxury and cosmopolitan bathrooms in a gorgeous sorbet orange by the brand Not Only White, founded by Dutch designer Marike Andeweg. Two super-king and two king-sized beds are swathed in crisp, high-thread-count linens, while the en-suite bathrooms channel high-art minimalism, blending striking design with calming functionality.

Outside, the drama unfolds. The expansive, covered decking stretches into the void, an invitation to dine under the open sky with nothing but the valley sprawling below. A fire pit smoulders into the small hours, surrounded by low-slung seating and impossibly soft throws. And then there’s the swing seat—a moment of stillness, a front-row view of Scotland’s cinematic skies shifting from moody twilight to inky midnight.

A stone’s throw from Aberfeldy, with Loch Tay, Pitlochry, and the legendary Birks of Aberfeldy Walk within reach, The Lodge at Dun Aluinn doesn’t just promise an escape—it delivers a full-throttle immersion into Scotland’s most intoxicating landscapes. This isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a manifesto of style, solitude, and soul-stirring adventure.

Location

Dun Aluinn House is located next to the town of Aberfeldy in the Scottish county of Perthshire, made famous by "The Birks of Aberfeldy" a song lyric written for a pre-existing melody in 1787 by Robert Burns. He was inspired to write it by the Falls of Moness and the birch trees of Aberfeldy during a tour of the Scottish Highlands.

Surrounded by arresting forest landscapes, babbling rivers and natural beauties - Loch Tay, Glen Lyon, ancient monasteries, churches and royal relics. Not forgetting the oldest tree in the UK – the famous Fortingall Yew Tree - said to be the last descendant of Shakespeare's Birnam Wood.

Apart from finding here several arts, book and craft shops, Aberfeldy is Scotland’s first Fairtrade town – where local producers and suppliers have worked together to ensure that local produce, crafted products and skills are not only ethical and organic but are being preserved. It is also home to Dewars whisky Distillery.
