Ski Guide to Leogang

Skiing in Leogang, Zell am See in Western Austria is part of the Skicircus Saalbach - Hinterglemm -Leogang - Fieberbrunn as it is officially known is quite the ride, encompassing high mountain passes, over 270kms of thrilling runs, seven snow parks and five toboggan runs.

Located in the Zell am See region of western Austria, Leogang itself benefits from a peaceful ambience from the small, local charm of the village; visitors are often surprised at how quiet the Leogang runs are too.  A nearby beginners’ valley help learners get their confidence up, yet the vast Saalbach valley is very much in reach for those that like a challenge. Accessible by speedy eight-seater chair lifts, you can be up in the mountains in no time, trying blues, reds and even some daredevil blacks.

With over 60 huts to choose from, taking a break from the mountains into the enveloping warmth of a mountain hut is one of the joys of a skiing holiday. Find cosy stube interiors, scented with pine and whatever is cooking that day from classic Kaiserschmarrn to hearty Pinzgau cheese dumplings accompanied by Tyrol specialities such as Knödl, platters of speck and mountain cheese and of course a schnapps or two.

If you decide to take a non-ski day, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Kids will love the five toboggan runs, and a horse-drawn carriage ride through snowy scenes pleases families and couples alike. Ice-skate below the Steriness mountain range makes the most picturesque setting for your jumps and twirls. Thrill seekers will be challenged on the longest steel zip line in the world on Asitz mountain if you dare! We told you Leogang was a ride, come see for yourself.
