Plose

Italy

You can’t fault the pristine natural beauty of the Plose Massif, made up of the mountain peaks of Telegraph, Pfannspitze and Gabler, found just seven kilometres from Brixen (Bressanone) in Italy’s South Tyrol. Dolomite scenery pure and simple, Plose encapsulates all that is wonderful about mountain life.

With a name that is thought to have come from the pre-Roman word for ‘steep lawn’ or blese, Mount Plose is accessible by cable car, a swift and smooth journey via a panorama cabin car from the valley station up to Kreuztal, 2,050m above sea level. In winter this could be the start of a day touring the pistes, with up to 40 km of wide slopes over the sunny valley slopes of Trametsch, Crazy Horse, and Palmschoss.

In all seasons, thrill-seekers can enjoy the Plosebob, a 147-metre railed track which you experience in a closed bobsled. Hiking trail Woody Walk is perfect for the family outing, with scrambles over fallen trees and even the odd slide, conveniently finishing at a pretty alpinehut for replenishment and mountain fare. Plose is in fact the ideal place to sample local cuisine, with an amazing 13 huts dotted around the landscape, so you can get your fill of dumplings, game stews, cold meats and kaiserschmarrn.

Snow or sun-drenched, or perhaps both, Plose is your Dolomite go-to for when you need a mountain reset.

Anders Mountain Suites

A design refuge for those that like their head in the clouds but feet firmly placed in architectural modernism, set at 1850 metres, the hotel is lofty enough to be able to ski straight out of its door, as well as hiking in summer.
