Revered for its sublime beauty and ethereal landscapes, Norway is graced with natural phenomena and vistas so stunning that they could easily belong within the pages of a fairy tale.
While most visitors hearken to its glistening windswept shores in order to glimpse the magic of the Aurora Borealis, or The Northern Lights, a riveting new structure has been erected a mere two hours from Alstad and its Juvet Landscape Hotel, which plays witness to a phenomenon of a different kind: the last of the wild reindeer herds in Europe.
The Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion is located in the Dovrefjell National Park and overlooks the magnificent Snøhetta Mountain itself.
A mesmerizingly undulating wooden building, it mirrors the ripples of the surrounding landscape and perfectly settles into the eye-line, following the plains up to the surrounding Dovre mountain ranges above.
This one-ness with surrounding nature is perfectly replicated in our favourite Alstad hotel, Juvet, which effortlessly carries you away on a holiday of serenity and peace, deep within the pine forest.
All the while, we should say, being almost bang in the centre of Norway, and so conveniently close to, well, everywhere.
Travelling in Norway demands that you take it slow, as the scenery you pass is just too good to miss.
So traverse your way through some of the most beautiful natural spectacles in the world and in a few hours you will find yourself in Oslo, Bergen, the nearby ski resort of Beitostølen, or even the Dovrefjell National Park and its sublime Snøhetta Reindeer Pavilion.
Only open until the end of October, Snøhetta’s Reindeer Pavilion would be a fantastic architectural escape should you be looking for somewhere fabulous to stay next year (Juvet) or should you even be on the way there now…
