Portuguese born and bred, this eco-friendly capsule fashion brand sums up what it is to be young, free and creative – living your best life around Lisbon and surfing the waves of the Atlantic.
With an easy-breezy, casual-cool style, +351 (named after Portugal’s dialling code), is founded by creative director Ana Penha e Costa. Influenced by her lovely locale plus studies and travels around the world – Brazil in particular where she studied fashion - Ana’s designs reflects contemporary millennial life, with reference to Lisbon – a city that fizzes with creative energy and is only a hop away from the wilds of the Atlantic Ocean and its promise of surf.
Characterised by a relaxed-look, wear-by-day clothing, you’ll find +351’s designs to include basic tees, warm and cosy hoodies, long-sleeved tops, baseball caps and branded tote bags. There’s also a capsule swimwear collection made up of board shorts and itty-bitty bikinis.
With a certain surf slant, in loose oversized styles, the clothing has a transatlantic feel, and wouldn’t look out of place on surf dudes and coastal chicks from the beaches of Bahia in Brazil, to chilly Cornwall and big-wave Biarritz.
Despite her worldly outlook, Ana and her brand +351 are proud to be 100% Portuguese – which extends to their commitment to fabrics. All the garments are made from 100% organic cotton in a range of soft-to-the-touch fabrics such as terry, fame, twill and canvas cotton. Grown in Portugal, it is produced without chemicals which shows consideration for cotton farmers as well as the biodiversity of the soil it grows in. Unlike conventional cotton growing, cultivating organic cotton means a reduction in CO2 levels as well as a remarkable 90% cut back on water usage.
A modern company which addresses the needs of a young generation with climate change at the heart of their domain, +351 is a company that encapsulates the freedom that youth brings, wrapped in a respect for mother nature.
