Maison Douillet - Timeless Collections inspired by the Alps

Much has been said about the benefits of slow fashion and lifestyle practices, but how many can make time stand still? Maison Douillet creates such timeless clothing and interior designs that they don’t reinvent the wheel each season, but release only a permanent collection. It gives room for pause.

Maison Douillet was founded in 2021 by brothers Clément and Germain Douillet, who were inspired by the French Alps to move at a graceful, glacial pace. Their suppliers border the Alps, from Tarn in France to Filpucci in Italy, and Gottstein in Austria. In tribute to the ancestral knowledge surrounding their home region, the Douillets believe both noble and common materials have a high intrinsic quality. On a mission to redefine our relationship with everyday objects, their life-long collection features craft forms as precise as the peaks of the mountains. Committed to excellence, Maison Douillet works exclusively with French specialist workshops, including Tissage d’Autan in Tarn, Ateliers de Boissiers/Interstyl in Haute-Loire, Emo in Aube, and Ateliers ARP in bon Paris.

As inheritors of the French savoir-faire, their gender-neutral ready-to-wear collection valorises conscious design. Take the ‘Le Maillot’ – a woven rib top that feels closer to a first skin than a second skin. It’s made of quality long-staple organic cotton in Aube, France, so it can be a staple in your wardrobe forever. On the other hand, Maison Douillet’s boxy vest is knitted together in Paris with undyed boiled wool, and – at the finishing touch – biodegradable buttons. Maison Douillet’s authentic accessory collection continues the brand’s values by being heritage pieces, whether the generations that hold them are mountain adventurers or urban aesthetes. The neckwarmers and mittens are spun together with just-as-soft regenerated cashmere and wool in the Loire.

While being on-trend is not the point of Maison Douillet, it would be remiss not to mention that these natural-toned designs are offset by this winter’s hottest colour—bright (and smart) red. In their slow style, the brothers have also developed hand-crafted interior items that showcase raw essences with a minimalist poise. These include blankets made with French virgin wool in a continuous check pattern and wooden stools shorn from noble local wood species. It is a relatively small collection, but it stays true to the brother’s interest in an uncluttered way of life. Their offering may not be full of throws and trinkets, but it is full of respect for hand-crafted creation and the intimate relationship this requires with nature.

Creating designs for the ages, Maison Douillet has developed lasting relationships with companies that share its sensitivity and commitment to responsible yet luxurious design. While its designs are hyper-localised in production, they are valued worldwide afterwards – including by its stockists, Maiden and Ships, in Tokyo, Japan. As the Douillets slowly but surely establish themselves, we are reminded that one of the most lavish luxuries in life is time.
