It’s perhaps easiest to start with Kassl’s flagship products, the ones that kick started the brand into fashion consciousness back in 2018 – what is now known as the Kassl Editions Originals, and most notably the everlasting classic – the Original trench coat. Without gender but with a simple shape, made from rubber and oil, the durable outerwear speaks volumes about the brand and its commitment to longevity and quality.

Made from the same material and manufacturer that provides German firefighters with their enduring uniform, Kassl’s trench coats come in a range of muted, sought-from-nature hues – moss, tawny, beige and mud. From this original prototype has spawned a small range of altered jackets, but each never straying far from the original DNA of Kassl. The story goes that Kassl began when a group of friends became fixated on a fisherman’s coat. The made-for-life durability that paired with practicality and a seemingly good fit for all who tried it, the group’s interest was piqued by this iconic garment, traditionally used by sailors, fishermen and firefighters.

The concept of the oilskin fanned a flame that perhaps had laid dormant in these fashion-forward folk. Why keep reinventing something to the whims of fashionistas when good, solid product already existed, fulfilling a purpose which could be reused for a lifetime? The ideagathered pace and Kassl was born, alongside strict protocols that would also keep Kassl in line with their ethos.
