Megève

France

Built over a century ago by the famous Rothschild family, Megève was the first luxury resort in the Alps and a skiing destination for the French aristocracy.

An hour outside Geneva in the Rhône-Alpes region of South Eastern France, today you don’t have to be royalty to enjoy this Haute-Savoie village. Between 1113 m and 2350m altitude, Megève, along with Combloux, la Giettaz, Saint-Gervais, Saint Nicolas de Véroce and Les Contamines, make up the scenic vistas of the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, which offers 445 km of pistes, 111 lifts and some 650 snow cannons. The area is also ideal for foodies, with 30 or so mountain cabins and chalets serving delicious Savoyard lunchtime specialties. In Megève proper, 90+ restaurants offer a range of Michelin starred cuisines. We recommend taking it slow with a morning devoted to the swanky boutiques, cafés and patisseries of the lovely Place d'Eglise.
