In brief: For four days this September, Sensei Zen Takai, the last living heir of a 16-generation Samurai and Ninja lineage, leads an intimate leadership retreat at AHAMA on the Turkish Riviera. Dates are Sunday 13 to Wednesday 16 September 2026, places are by application only, and from 3,400 euros it includes everything from training to attire to airport transfers.
Some retreats teach you a technique. This one hands you a 16-generation inheritance.
This September, a rare thing happens on a quiet, forested stretch of the Turkish coast. Sensei Zen Takai, described as the last of the Zen Samurai lineage, brings his four-day Life Leadership: Purpose and Intuition retreat to AHAMA, the hidden sanctuary near Fethiyewhere forest meets sea. It is not a wellness weekend with a Samurai theme. It is the real thing, taught by a man who grew up surrounded by swords, and who has no heir to pass it to but the people who show up.
That last detail is what makes this newsworthy. This is a living tradition being shared before it disappears.
Sensei Zen Takai was born in Fukuoka, Japan, into a family of sixteen generations of Samurai and Ninjas, a bloodline once chosen by the legendary Hattori Hanzo to defend the Shogun's capital during its move from Kyoto to Tokyo. He learned the Samurai arts from his father, mastering eighteen distinct practices to earn the title of Sensei, alongside a lifetime of deep self-exploration.
Drawing on Zen meditation, the Bushido code, and Shinto tradition, he developed The Zen Samurai Way, a moving meditation built for life leadership rather than the battlefield. He is the last of his lineage, and with no children to inherit it, he has devoted his life to sharing this wisdom with people from every walk of life, worldwide.
This is not a first-timer finding his feet. In recent years Sensei has trained more than 280 senior leaders and entrepreneurs across three continents, guiding executives from organisations including Oxford University, Mastercard, Nestlé and Breitling, plus more than 5,000 practitioners around the world. His work spans executive sessions at Oxford University, leadership intensives across South America, and programs for YPO chapters and global leadership groups. He has taught on platforms as prestigious as Mindvalley University, Younity and the Summit Series.
The retreat is built on the Samurai's Five Element philosophy, with each day mapped to a natural element that shapes the practices, reflections and leadership insights. Nature here is not the backdrop. It is the teacher, guiding perception, decision-making, emotional regulation and resilient leadership.
Day 1, Ground and Arrival (Earth). Arrival, orientation and grounding presence. An opening circle on learning from nature and the Five Elements, foundational work on posture, stance and breath, an introduction to Samurai philosophy and daily rhythm, and a Samurai sleep ritual to close.
Day 2, Sensitivity and Flow (Water). Emotional regulation, adaptability and listening. Morning Samurai meditation in nature, the Water element philosophy of flexibility and responsiveness, sensitivity and balance work, blindfolded awareness and perception training, and evening practice in non-verbal communication and subtle influence.
Day 3, Expression and Vitality (Fire). Clarity, intention and presence in action. Sunrise meditation and breathwork, Fire element training in vitality and decisiveness, sword practice as moving meditation, calligraphy and energy control, and a fireside evening session on leadership expression and restraint.
Day 4, Perspective and Integration (Wind and Sky). Intuition, influence and commitment. Morning movement and meditation, Wind element work on perception, intuition and timing, Sky element reflection on perspective and purpose, and a closing integration circle that turns insight into real leadership commitments.
Across the four days you move through a set of disciplines designed to build life leadership through purpose and intuition, not technique alone: sword training as moving meditation, blindfolded sensitivity practice, Samurai meditation and breathwork, nature-based reflection and solo time, the Five Element philosophy, and calligraphy with energy control.
The intended outcomes are refreshingly practical. You leave able to re-establish inner stillness and clarity, lead without force or exhaustion, strengthen intuitive decision-making, regulate emotion under pressure, clarify your personal purpose and direction, and reconnect your leadership to natural rhythm and coherence.
You cannot think your way into intuition. You have to slow down enough to feel it, and few places make that as effortless as AHAMA. It is a hidden retreat where forest meets sea, blending Japanese minimalism with Lycian charm, laced with quiet pathways and private bays and spaces designed for stillness and renewal. It sits just forty minutes from DalamanAirport, yet feels a world away from every distraction.
AHAMA's own philosophy dovetails almost eerily well with the retreat. Rooted in nature, it brings the fundamental values of longevity to life through a communal experience that is shared yet deeply personal, holding joy and lightness alongside the deeper work, because true wellbeing is not only cultivated, it is felt.
Nourishment is handled entirely by AHAMA, whose kitchen celebrates Göcek's heritage and the rich traditions of the Aegean, paying homage to local flavours with global finesse from the first breakfast to the last dinner. Participants can also book into a curated wellbeing offering (reservations in advance), including a communal thermal circuit with sauna, steam room, cold plunge, red light therapy and a magnesium recovery lounge, plus spa treatments using local botanicals such as the native Oriental sweetgum. Every detail is built to support nervous system regulation, physical restoration and a deeper connection to the natural world.
