Sweden’s Biggest Christmas Market

Whip out that tinsel and get your festive cheer on as Gothenburg’s epic Liseberg Park plays host to Sweden’s biggest Christmas Market. A land of mulled wine and carolling glory, immerse yourself in five million twinkling lights, 700 Christmas trees and 70 rustic market stalls – no, this isn’t IKEA at Christmas time, this is Sweden’s biggest ever Christmas market, (but you still might need to grab a trolley).

With 7 distinct areas or districts to discover – from Liseberg 's kid-fave ‘Rabbit Land’ to an ‘Old-Fashioned’ Swedish Christmas, you can even a journey back into the atmospheric ‘Middle Ages’, without travelling so far yourself – just into Gothenburg’s bustling city centre.

Open from November 19th at weekends and every day except Monday from 1st – 30th December, Gothenburg’s Liseberg Christmas Park is closed 24th and 25th December.

Full of market stalls spilling over in arts and crafts, perfectly packaged Christmassy presents and traditional festive foods from toffee apples and mulled wine to marinated herring, marzipan pigs and even roasted reindeer, there’s still the thought of comforting Swedish fika afterwards if marinated herring is quite your thing.

Soak up an ‘Old-Fashioned Christmas’ in the authentic neck of the woods, full of carolling, twinkling lights and a tree to make you crane your neck; enter a ‘Medieval’ wonderland as the ‘midwinter festival’ hits full swing, with swords clashing and knights strutting; peek into the winter world of the ‘Rabbits’, especially wonderful for curious kids and lastly soak up the classic sights, sounds and aromas of the ‘Traditional Christmas Market’. Your trolley – and festive spirits – will undoubtedly be full.

Afterwards it will be time for a post-fika skate at Liseberg’s very own ice skating rink, and then a wander through Gothenburg’s snowy cobbled streets, lights twinkling and excitement in the air. Where better, then, to head back after a long day of shopping and Santa vibes than perfectly pink design den, Hotel Flora, only a 9-minute drive, or half hour walk away. A bastion of family cool and effortless, welcoming style, this boutique hub is surrounded by Nordic fashion and indie spots all around, the better to fill your Christmas stocking with.
