The Bardolino Wine Festival, or Festa Dell’Uva to locals, is found on the eastern shore of Italy’s beautiful Lake Garda, and is truly an oenophile’s dream. Enjoying cult status in the wine world, Bardolino Wine Festival is a five-day affair dedicated to all things wine, grape and vine, and for nearly a century now, has announced the oncoming of Italy’s autumn.
Approaching its 90th year, the Bardolino Wine Festival is an annual event held at the tail end of September and the first week of October, and is set to welcome a crowd of oenophiles numbering 100,000, all brimming with fabulous palettes and on-point noses.
Celebrating grapes grown all around Lake Garda’s shores, Festa dell’Uva is particularly famous for each year’s new batch of red Bardolino wine, compounded of four local grape varieties: Rondinella, Molinara, Corvina Veronese and Negrara. There is also of course Bardolino Chiaretto, a light and fruity rosé, as well as local Lake Garda producers working under the revered appellation of DOC (Denominazione orgine controllata), a status that is only awarded to the finest wines in particular Italian regions, in this case, Lake Garda.
Lugana wine is also a celebrated tipple at Bardolino, another DOC variety that has history on its side, having been grown and cultivated since Roman times. A white wine that comes from the characteristic Trebbiano di Lugana grape, Lugana wine presents itself as yet another reason to get yourself down to this delicious lakeside festival.
