Ahrenshoop

Germany

Ostseebad Ahrenshoop, a municipality in the Vorpommern-Rügen district on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, was formerly home to painters such as Paul Müller-Kaempff and Oskar Frenzel. Moved by the landscape, in 1889 they formed an artist colony that soon became popular among other leading painters of the era. Today, Ahrenshoop is known colloquially as the "Artist Spa" and has become a popular place for creatives and celebrities in search of inspiration (or merely a beautiful shoreline cottage). Here, sandy dunes bump up against salt marshes dotted with samphire & sea asters, and quaint whitewashed guesthouses line the untouched coastline of the Ostsee. In short, it’s a perfect mix of rustic Germany charm, Danish minimalism, and rural glamour.
