Perfumer H is proud to introduce its new flagship on Clifford Street, Mayfair. In keeping with the street’s 18th-century heritage, the store has been designed to evoke Georgian London. Carefully selected antiques sit alongside bespoke modern pieces to reflect the eclectic romanticism of the Regency period and multi-faceted soul of Perfumer H.
Entering at street level, visitors will find a tranquil space where antique cabinets are stocked with fragrances, hand-blown creations by Michael Ruh, home and pantry products. A still life by the painter Will Calver, commissioned specifically for this store, hangs in elegant serenity above the fireplace — a homage to the building’s past as an art gallery, and a nod to what will unfold on the lower ground level. The artistic pursuit of Lyn Harris has always been to work in conversation with like-minded artists and makers. The Clifford Street store’s basement will host an exhibition space where commissioned artworks will be exhibited seasonally. For the opening, works from long-term artistic partners of Perfumer H, glass blower Michael Ruh and ceramicist Ed Hill, adorn the space.
The basement will also house an in-store refilling station. Filled with jars of curiosities, pickled ingredients and raw materials such as vetiver grass from Haiti and frankincense from Somalia, the laboratory is a rare window into the extraordinary scope of Lyn’s olfactory vision. Visitors will be able to witness the candle-making process in an intimate setting, a spell of calm in the heart of London.
Lyn Harris’s passion for perfume was ignited during her training in Paris, although it was clear from a young age that she had a precious predilection for translating beautiful natural scents into perfumes, and growing up in Yorkshire and Scotland, she was surrounded by fresh air.
She continued to learn with Robertet Grasse – known for rose petals and perfume-making, who specialises in raw natural materials. This hugely influential period in her life helped launch her first fragrance enterprise –the phenomenally successful Miller Harris.
Now, with Perfumer H, Harris has seen it as her duty to share her newly slowed-down processes, relying on her own intuition to turn her olfactory journey into an explosion of naturalistic tones. She describes the coming of a fragrance idea as so strong and vivid, yet simultaneously fleeting, so the intensity of her creative moment must be captured immediately. Her aim is to create connections with our natural world and its materials with her range of unconventional fragrances which we find so intriguingly addictive.
At Perfumer H stores, scents and candles can be purchased in beautiful handblown glass bottles and candle holders. Lyn also produces pantry products that carry the same sensory DNA of the brand, from Welsh jams to lemon olive oils and sea salt infused by Provençal wild herbs, flowers and spices with delicate Fleur de Sel.
