Looking for a little time away from the stress, preferably spent out on the open water? The Masurian Lake District of North Eastern Poland contains more than 2,000 lakes, making it the perfect destination for water sports enthusiasts. The area is so otherworldly it was even a finalist for the 2011 New7Wonders of Nature contest. While it didn’t win, visitors can still feel the majesty of the area, which boasts a temperate climate with cold winters and warm summers. The region is also home to the Masurian Landscape Park, which includes 11 nature reserves including the Łuknajno Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the legendary Białowieża Forest, the last home of the European Bison.
