Found in Lisbon, Made in Situ is a cross-disciplinary design studio, creating original pieces that are linked to a sense of place, paired with sincere craftsmanship.
With a limited production for each collection, French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance uses a diverse mix of styles, influences and materials to create art pieces that feel deeply grounded in the natural world. With a deliberate use of earth’s bountiful and dramatic offerings, his designs are often characterised by geological wonder: streaks of bronze, charred wood, smooth beeswax, whole tranches of cork and quarried granitic rock.
Adding in the craftsmanship of local acquaintances and the embedded culture of the locale such as unique use of traditional Lisboa azulejo tiles, ancient fire pit techniques and smoothen woodwork, Made In Situ is a treasure trove of sculpture, furniture, lighting and objects for the home. We love the smooth chairs made from Portuguese cork while the bronze candle holders with natural beeswax candles are sheer beauty. The exploration of Portuguese craft in the tiled wooden screens evoke the sea while showing azulejo tiles in a fresh new light.
A deep thinker, evolving creative and fosterer of heritage, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance was born in the South of France, yet he doesn’t determine his style by his location, in fact his work is a moveable feast, a rolling ideology that can exist and be nurtured in any place.
His academic training took place in sculpture at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art, followed by a degree in furniture design from the renowned Les Arts Décoratifs which led to prestigious collaborations with industry leaders that span fashion, architecture and interior design such as Hermes, Dior, Mont Blanc, Ligne Roset among many others. Today he continues to use his skill within art, design and sculpture with a persistent interest in heritage, craftsmanship and nature to create limited edition collections for Made In Situ.
Ribboned with artistry and created to last, Made In Situ’s design collections tap into centuries-old craft, designed for the future.
